Easy way to move a large fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I beg to differ about picking up a tank with water, provided its done carefully, I had a 60 gallon tank, drained half the water, me and a friend then picked up the table with the tank on it, fish still in it and carried it to the next room where its been ever since. Just move slow and carfully, after its settled down, I just pushed it in place against the wall.

We have recently started using pond and pool nets with wood handles in our big tank and im never going back to even the largest blue net. Much leas chasing an the net is squared off so it wraps the fish completely and doesnt allow for thrashing and hurting themselves. The mesh is really soft almost like linen. I would check into it. Ive also seen nets intended for large birda that look great for large fish as they are large and long.

Thanks for the suggestions, now I have some better idea how I am going to do this. At least I am moving just a little down the wall, not all the way into another room. Already did that with the 30 that was in the same room with the 75. Jag might get annoyed, but when his new 125 or 150 home is ready it will be worth it.

Your right the bigger tank will be great for him,I hope his genes are more jag...or he may outgrow the 18 inch wide tank.pond net is a good idea,I would not try to fit him in a 5 gal bucket especially for more than short time.those big round ice tubs are cheap, hope it goes well!

If Jag outgrows my next tank, his next move is the Tn. Aquarium in Chattanooga! I might consider a 150 that I saw at a LFS. It was more square than long. I'll have to check the dimensions, but I think it was something like 4 foot square. I'll put him in a big rubbermaid in between moves, I'll have to make sure cover is on good, my cat might get a surprise if she jumps into that box!
