Ok so, I mean from my understanding the flow in thies things go bottom to top on the outer rim through all the sponges. Then top to bottom through the inner circle.

So you would think you would want sponges on outside, fine filter pads ontop, and what ever else you want below it so you dont get depris in your carbon bags or what ever you want to use. So I go and purchase the circlular blue fine filter pad. it says to put it on the bottom :| WTH !?

So I said screw it it comes with three haha, so I put one on the bottom of each tray and put biomax ontop of them. With of course the sponge on the outside. Id say im ready for anything ! This tank will never get dirty !

You'll be changing the pads quite a bit with one on every tray.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good way to get your water nice and Crispy but depending on your stock, expect to have to clean the filter/remove some pads in about a month.

I use just one blue pad on the bottom tray, that way whatever gets by my prefilter and bio rings, gets trapped in the last try on the pad along with more sponges and bio.

I put blue filter in the middle and works really good. clean reuse Polishing pads on very bottom but only last 2weeks Max but they get every little thing out of the tank then strait to the trash you just can't clean those things they are do thick dense. I dont run a polishing pad all the time.

Improper installation. Not by the filter pad.

Blue pads have been known to cause micro bubble problems in Fx5. good luck.

Do you have any links that could clear this up? I have always read that no matter what micro bubbles will happen with blue pads. Just like it did for this fellow.

Blue pads here and no micro bubbles. Only bubbles I get are from my air stones.

Link- Don't need links I have two fx5 up right now running. I don't read about it I have done it One on purpose I didn't install right ( No option of putting filter fully below tank) since it's sitting on kitchen Floor temporarily and other on my main tank No issues at all. The one I get bubbles other I setup properly has No issue never seen bubbles ever. I always run a blue pad. Even put two in once. It's all about hose length and overall setup .
