Hey guys, i live in saskatchewan, canada and i've been wondering how native fish liver would taste.the main catchable fish up here are trout, walleye, yellow perch, and Northern pike. when i filet fish i always take the filets and in Walleye particularly their cheeks. i've had the fins deep fried and my family friends love to eat the head but are native fish organs edible? im assuming the liver is and maybe the heart? (maybe even eyes)? has anyone here tried it? thanks guys

Besides the roe and gizzards i dont think any other parts are edible.

Well, any part of a fish is edible. It won't bring any harm. The question is, "Does it taste good to the palate?" if you like it, eat it.

I grew up eating fish roe. Mainly white fish (Coregoninae). Salted on toast with some chopped onion, sour cream and a twist of lemon. It's so tasty!
But my grandmother told me that during WW2 and when times where hard they made pancakes with pike and salmon roe.
They also ate boiled roe from perch, pike and burbot. But make sure the liver is free from parasites.
The liver contains tons of fatty acids.
Fried cod liver with some salt and pepper with some potatoes is really tasty. Can also be boiled in water and white wine served with potatoes and some fresh dill.

Just remember that toxins and heavy metals are stored in the liver and fat, so fish caught in polluted waters should be avoided.
