Folks,

Plannin to add a new member to my 100gal. Found these ebjd juvies at an LFS. But I am unsure of the quality as I ve rarely come across them. Also, the colour is non uniform and too many black speckles.
Would appreciate feedback folks.

The pictured EBJD's look good to me. They are a little washed out, probably due to the display situation. Once settled you'll likely see more black markings mixed with blue or green. Before you buy make sure the JD's are eating. Pick the biggest, meanest one in the tank. They have a tendency to be physically more fragile than the Standard JD. They have the typical JD attitude, but don't grow quite as large, more prone to disease and are suseptable to sudden unexplained death. Don't let that scare you, I had a male EBJD grow to 9" and live five years. He was killed by a Green Terror.

Great, thank you :headbang2
Sounds like I gotta pick one asap.. the more time they spend in the store, the more the stress

Btw.. how is their growth rate?

In my dictionary.. fast=flowerhorns slow=frontosa

I think my male EBJD reached full size in two years. Bought him at 1", died at 9". My daughters female grew to only six inches.

They all look great to me....you cannot pick the one that you like the color bc it will change...ebjds change color several times until they are full grown.

You want to look for shape and fins when they are this small. No notched faces, no deformed fins, etc.

If you plan to breed then you can look for the one with the most red on the dorsal fin. For some reason the red that tops the dorsal fins gets lost in ebjds and it is highly desirable for jacks.

Other than that looks to be a good bunch. They look to be male dominant in that tank (I cannot promise they are males but the long fins make me believe they are mostly males. Just not they are still kind of small to sex)

Thank you Niki... will keep it in mind while pickin up. Will probably go for the biggest one with the most fliwing fins and any trace of red.

Good luck and please post pics when you choose...

So... he/she comes home!!!
On a closer look, 3 out of 5 they had had a slight beak like notch on their forehead. This fellow, though not the largest, had a smooth snout which I liked. Seed the deal!!!

Very nice, I think once it settles into your tank the colors will darker.

Also if you have prazipro it wouldn’t hurt to do one round of treatment on him.
