A couple of days ago I purchased an electric blue acara and he/she settled in nicely and began eating food yesterday. This morning I woke up and did not see it in the tank, but found it behind the tank on the carpet. I have no idea how long it was there, but when I was able to pick it up it was slightly moist and moved slightly so I dropped it in the tank.

Initially it sank with a couple of bubbles exiting its mouth. When it hit the sand it moved quite vigorously, however it stopped shortly after and has been sitting on its stomach since then. I've checked on it several times throughout the day and it has moved to a couple of different spots. Currently it resides against the glass, the eyes have cleared up slightly from earlier this morning. I added a bit salt and have had the lights off when not in the room. Are there any other things I can do to give it the best chance to live. I also have to find a way to prevent anymore suicide jumps out of the tank. The spot where it jumped out of is actually a pretty good jump for such a tiny fish.

yea good thing you found it when you did. I would step up water changes just to keep everything perfect. its probably super stressed still, as a near death situation can do, maybe weak. I would expect it just needs to heal up a bit.

Good save bro, x2 clean water and cover up the hole.

Thanks for the advice guys. I gave the tank a small water change, and sealed the holes. After dinner and about 10.5 hours after I found him on the floor, it seems to be coming around. When I turned on the light it started to move around a bit and was swimming about as well as you would expect right now. Hopefully over the next couple of days it makes a full recovery.
