I have a bunch of electric blue acaras that have bred and I’d like to put them in my 300 planted setup. They range from 1”-3” or so. I have a school of rummynose in there. Do you think it would work?

Yes it could work .

It should work. EBA are slow swimmer and your tank is huge. EBA will make them school tighter. It's great combination.

I have EBA in my planted 75 and consider adding Rummy, but it won't work as Rummy in a smaller tank can easily be cornered.

It should be fine. I had the same combination in a 120, no issues at all, the EBAs did their own thing and didn't hassle them. I've got them with columbian tetras now and still a peaceful situation.

It may work for some time until the acaras put some size on them, then I would be concerned that the rummies will become expensive snacks.

I've had Blue Acaras in the past eat adult swordtails. I know it's not exactly the same, but pretty close. My experience was in a 180, which while not a big as a 300, isn't exactly a small tank.

It’s unusual that blue Acura to prey on adult swordtail as Acura is not a piscivorous predictor. The size of the tank makes a difference. I’ve seen in public aquarium exhibits where sword tails kept with Midas, and arrowana kept with hundreds of cardinal tetra.

your typical eba is not a very predatory fish, but they are little hogs. i have one out of four that will chase tetras and the like and is very predatory whenever theres fry in the tank. i wouldn't be surprised if he ate a rummynose because they are on the small side of the tetra spectrum.

I captured this video when I visited the Dallas Worldwide Public Aquarium many years ago. A 2 ft Asian Arowana housed in a 300 - 400 g tank with hundreds of cardinal neon tetra. It's crazy the neon don't become food for the Arowana. I saw similar set up in the Baltimore National Aquarium with big cichlid housed with small tetra.

I kept blue acaras with serpae tetras, shorter body fish were eaten. Tank is huge, but if they get a chance, something as thin bodied as rummynose could end up being a snack.

I have breeding EBA and they are pretty docile towards other fish.
But part of their spawning rituals the males will grab plants and shake them and tear up bits of leaves and spit them as a display towards the females.

So in a tank that large it may not be a problem but in my 75 planted tank it has caused quite a bit of damage to the aquascape.
just an observation.
