EBGD passed suddenly

Had a 9 inch male EBJD, He was alittle quite for a couple of days, this morning he is lying on his side and when I nudged him with a net he gets up swims in a contorted manner. It was as if he had a left sided stroke. I did all the usual things, the other fish were fine and he seemed better when I left. about 8 hours later he is bent to the left as if he has rigor or spasm. I move him and he passed in 24 hours. No signs of trauma, no discoloration no spots holes or ick. He was 2 1/2 years old. I had an oscar do this once years ago. Any thoughts? Is this a genetic tendency in EBJD I dont have a long experience with these variants.

I'm not familiar with ebjd but is there any current in the water? Feel it with the tip of your finger and see if it has electricity from something not working properly. What else is in the tank?
 
I don't really know what causes it but or is something that does happen heart attack maybe sorry for your loss if it was electrical all of them would be dead
 
120 gallon, fluval 5x canister filter( no carbon), air stone and a heater. Fish 3 silver dollars, 4 danios , 3 tiger barbs a red tail shark one gold fish( the kids). The other fish are fine. 20% water changes each 10 days. Varied diet and supplementation.

I have to think that he suffered a neurologic event.
 
He probably just died of some kind of genetic defect, poor diet or bad water quality like many other EBJD... they are much more susceptible to all these things than the other fish you have.
 
I am afraid to admit but i agree with you, these fish are breed for color/appearance rather than strength of breed. He was well cared for just bad luck I guess its still tough when you raise them from peewees.
 
Sorry. It happens with ebjd sometimes. Some are healthy forever and some are little time bombs.
 
strange did you notice and scratching on rocks ? was water changed made recently?

was the fish eating ? maybe I sound redundent but just asking questions?
