Hey guys, I've had an Ebjd now for about 8 months and he was never a fully beautiful color that I see in the pics online. Over the past month or so he hasn't looked right at all, almost looks like a chemical burn throughout his body. 75g tank, very well filtrated, and he is in with another small dempsey/green terror/2 Oscars (and doest get beat up on) till I upgrade to my large tank in a month. I keep consistent with water changes and ammonia is not an issue. I had a snail outbreak so I used "copper power" I think it was called, but his color issue has been before I've even used that. I'm just not sure what's up with him, he eats and poops fine. I have had to in the past put him in a hospital tank and treat with metro and prazi I think it was cause he had a parasite but he is much better in that aspect now. Any ideas? Gonna try to post a pic

Wow he looks rough. Have his fins always been in such poor shape? He almost has no caudal fin. If hes always looked like that it's possible he just has severe genetic problems. It also looks like he may have just had some kind of external bacteria or parasite that ate all his fins and scales up really bad.

My profile picture is how he used to look by the way, he was a bit younger back then and I know they change in color but I just know this isn't how he's supposed to look now

Yea I feel the same way, the caudal fun does not look right at all and he swims a little funky. Any ideas on how to fix something like this? I want my old ebjd back he was so beautiful. Could he possibly have a external parasite eating away at him? Although all of my other fish are fine. I'm just baffled by this

It's definitely possible for one fish to be sick with a parasite or other disease and other fish in the tank don't contract it. Many EBJD already have poor genetics as is and seem to be weak at fighting things off. There's a reason you don't see tons of them fully grown. It's possible whatever he got sick with when you treated him before lowered his immune system to the point that this external ailment has taken over. The problem is if anyone one of your fish get stressed or sick and their immune system goes down they could end up with the same thing. I would definitely remove the jack into a hospital tank and treat for external parasites. Do something like a combination of paraguard and aquarium salt at first and go to something more extreme if he doesn't improve. If it were my fish I would probably treat the tank he came out of too but others may not agree on that.

Wow, he looks miserable. I hope you can nurse him back. I agree he needs his own convalescent tank and probably for some time

So I just picked up "kanaplex" for my hospital tsnk for him, I also have "copper power green" which says eliminates fungus and external parasites. Any input?

I haven't used either medication. Don't forget that some meds can wipe out the beneficial bacteria in your filter. Did you move over a cycled filter to the hospital tank with the fish?
