EBJD Breeding project..Pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I hear you haveto take the babies and breed them out...I hope I get some babies though...The female keeps chasing the male around is that ok?

Andrew… looking back over your pictures, I have to compliment that Gold female. Mine has been sexually mature for about 6 months and has no where’s near as much Blue on her gill plate as yours… she’s stunning…

NC, how large are your F1's?

F1’s meaning first generation Blue/Gold cross… Mine are still small… 4~5 weeks old… They are a cross from a Blue male from Ormed’s (Randy’s) #1 line bred with a female Gold (from my understanding there is only one line of Golds available)…

i wonder if anybody has a second generation so we could see what came out of it

I do my best to stay connected with others working with Blue Dempseys, and as far as I know no one has bred the Blue x Gold offspring yet… Although if I’m wrong and someone here has one… by all means, step in…

Sorry for derailing but what is the outcome of EBJDxEBJD?

Blue x Blue = 100% Blue… but so far every Blue x Blue pair has produce very week young that do not survive past 2 weeks. The one person I talk to who was able to keep a couple alive for a couple months said they were terribly deformed (facial/skull deformities & bent spines I believe).

their fry will be gorgeous

Yes, by F1 I meant the first generation offspring. Technically that's how the Filial system is supposed to work, not the bastardized system people use with wild caught and downward fish.

From a breeding program standpoint the blue and gold are the P or parental generation, and breeding the offspring is the F1 generation, then the F2, etc. Any time you add new genetics you start over with a new P generation.

^^ LOL... yup... actually my Gold x Standard and my Gold x Blue offspring do not get nearly as dark/pretty as my Standard x Standard or my Blue x Standard offspring...

...and I clarified what you meant by F1 simply so other's quickly knew what we were talking about... When individuals make up their own meanings for things it simply makes them more confusing and less useful to everyone...
