EBJD Compatability

Hey all. I currently have a 55g fish tank with 2 Clown Loaches, a fairly large columbian cat and 3 angels.

Just curious if they are as timid as everyone says and will get along with the angels.

I know the Columbian cat fish will hold his own as he did well with africans. I've also had clown loaches with oscars before, without much trouble.

I guess my main concern is with the angels.

probably not a good idea.. EBJD are cichlids after all.. and will fight for territory..

Angels are Cichlids too...


The size of the Angels vs the size of the Blue Dempseys will mean a lot...


The individual temperment of the Blue Dempsey is also likely to vary considerably. I have an adult that does fine with sub dominant tankamtes and one that commonly harrasses tankmates... In my experience having raised a good many Blue Dempseys is their aggression levels vary greatly...

I have heard of EBJDs being kept with angels, even discus, so it's not all that crazy of an idea . . . your actual experience may vary

having kept both JD and EBJD, it is definitely my experience that the EBJD is notably wimpier . . . not docile, but not top-dog material either . . .

I have a 9" male Blue Dempsey that is as tough as any one of the male adult male standard Dempseys I've kept...

I agree there are a higher percentage of weaker than average Blue Dempseys than there are standards, but the potential is there

The larger the group you grow out and select from the better your chances of getting a big nice one is... the better the breeding habits of your supplier the better your chances of getting a nice big one...
