Its a hit or a miss with having the lights off, I have a few aggressive cichlids in my 125 gallon and when the lights are off, no one moves at all. When I put aquarium salt into my EBJD tank, he never bothers with it.Also what size was your EBJD, because I have one that is 3 inches and now he is doing fine, I was worried everyday something strange would happen, because I bought him when he was under a inch.

He was about an inch bigger than the flowerhorn so about 3"

Your EBJD should of been fine then at 3 inches. From what I was told by others, anything below 3 inches will have a 50/50 chance of living. It is possible that the flowerhorn could of done it, but then I've had a couple of flowerhorns that never bothered any of the tank mates when they were 2 inches.

Yeah like I said earlier he seemed pretty chill. I mean I want going to put him in my tank with my jack and gt. if that was the case I'd have a dead flowerhorn. Oh have to count the 2 breeding cons too. The flowerhorn wouldn't have made it a hour.

most fish behave more aggressively when the lights are off.

Not so true.... My fish get mean when the lights come on, they just chill when the lights are off. A few things can cause aggression tho like, cold water changes, high temp, changing decor, or one fish established itself as the dominate fish.. But then again it doesnt take much aggression to kill a ebjd

Its a hit or a miss Oscar, whenever I keep my light off at night, there is less movement going on and no one is eaten or injured. One guy I know has a 150 gallon African cichlid tank where he keeps his light on, because there is always problems in his tank when the light is off.

My larger tank with some bigger more aggressive fish ,at night they never move. They all find a spot on the bottom sand or in a plant and lay down they don't really move until I turn the light back on

I have a large 6 inch EBJD in with a 5 inch flowerhorn and my EBJD is still the boss... he has large teeth and isnt affraid to show them to the others in the tank. I have another thread I started on here about my flowerhorn losing scales and I believe its from my EBJD. That said it could change at anytime or as the flowerhorn outgrows the EBJD. I bought 2 EBJD a year ago and one is big and healthy and one is half his size with deformities in the face and jaw. (BEAKNOSE) I will post pics later of them together...
