Cannot wait for my delivery tomorrow, the little ( hopefully female ) EBJD is on overnight courier to me. She will be in a tank with other juvie South Central Americans .

Does anybody have any long term experience with them? If so, what are your best tips? I have read that some people use a UV steriliser however I figure a 25% water change every week will keep the water clean. Also I have a big filter full of super high quality bio media and I add good bacteria every month.

Thoughts? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with your ebjd. 25% water change weekly may not cut it though . also you would have to take into account the size of your tank and how Many fish are in the tank. Research uv steralizers before you buy one there are different stages of sterilization if I remember correctly you would need 2nd or 3rd level sterilization to take care of parasites. I was planning on getting an ebjd but went with a yellow acara but will definitly get one down the road. Do some googlecsearches on uv steralizers I think the only one that actually kills parasites and is on the cheaper side is the sun sun model. In line steralizers are probably better but your gonna pay $$$

If you plan on getting one. Raise it alone for the next 4 months if it's a fry. I went through 2 of them until someone recommend me to try and raise one by itself. Reason being is that they get stressed out really quick and get sick. And that's what both of mine did. Both of them got into lip locking with my regular jd no damage at all to the ebjd. Then week later it died. It happened to both. Now I have 2 atm that I've been Raising for 6 months now with no problems at all. One of them got ick about a week later after I got him. Treated the tank and he's been good even since. I do weekly water changes in my 30 gallon at about 40%. Currently in the tank I have 2 ebjd, and a electric blue acara and a killie. Very mild tank. I'm waiting for them to reach 4-5" before I transfer them to my bigger tanks.

So if I were you and you have a spare tank raise him alone for awhile. You'll have a greater chance of him surviving and getting less stressed out than having him with other fish and getting stressed out and eventually getting sick. Here's a couple of pics of mine. I have 3 total. My other is in a 55 with 2 bandit Cichlids and a peacock bass which I'm going to move very soon to my 240.

i have 2 of them in a 20 long with 2 baby jags as well and no uv sterilizer its bare bottom tank with some planted driftwood
 
Wow they are beautiful, yeah mine is about 4 cm atm. I didn't release her I to the main tank. I put her in a breeding box as I've only just unboxed her. I figured the main tank water is stable and I don't have a spare tank yet.

Have a look at her* see what you guys think.
