Hello all! This is my first post to MFK. Love the site...but anyway. Down to business.

I noticed last night that my female EBJD was spastically dashing about my 55g tank. I had already fed the tank and everything. The gold severums, male EBJD and sailfin pleco were all doing perfectly fine.

She started swimming vertically and hovered at the surface. She wasn't gasping for air but she would just hang there a while. Then she would go in small circles all the way to the bottom and fall over. I don't have any issues with the water chemistry or anything. Nothing out of the norm either. No symptoms of illness in any of the fish.

I'm not sure if this is a SBD or what but I had another female EBJD mysteriously die, too. HELP!!!

Keep in mind the EBJD are only about 2" long right now... so they're still pretty young.

Thanks for helping! :(

Ok...so I think she's just in shock. I'm not sure but it may have been initiated by a visitor coming into the room and standing too close to the tank and spooking all the fish. They weren't happy. Hope she makes it through...

Keep a good eye on her and watch for stringy white poo, clamped fins, flashing, or anything that looks out of the ordinary. When you approach the tank, try to do it slowly and don't make any sudden movements in front of it, just sit and observe. My EBJDs freak out when something moves by their tank quickly and they usually calm down once they figure out that its just me (the stranger with food).

Sometimes they are just scared, JD's are know to be skittish.
