EBJD & JD advice needed.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you for all the input (kind of spooky when you’re a new bee with your 1st thread) MFK is a good family to belong to. Oh by the way the female JD is gone to the fish store and peace is restored.
Took a tape to the EBJD and he is closer to 4” but still too small. :irked:

Well, he's not too small, he just needs a woman that's more manageable (don't we all!). I've heard of very few cases where the ebjd can be smaller than the jd; it's usually the other way around. Look for a nice little 2.5-3" female and try again.

rmcder. Yes that is the plan but first I’ll let him recover both mentally and physically. Thanks.

That's too small for a Male EBJD at 1 year, plus probably 3 months old when you got it. Have you considered the possibility that you may have a female EBJD? Even though I think they are more rare than males, they are far from unheard of. 3 1/2" is a pretty typical size for a female.

had a male EBJD that got up to 5 inches. then i added some JD's to try and breed them, and my male EBJD died like a month after i introduced him.

The EBJD needs to be able to stand up for himself to show hes strong enough to mate, but if the JD was very aggressive then its not even worth trying. You have to get really lucky.

Am I missing something (I haven't checked on the forum in a while)? I thought that EBJD were all males?

I second this i thought the same thing "that males are the ones that carry the recessive blue gene not the females"

Ormed would DEF know...

and i heard of EBJD x EBJD pairs too, but all the offspring die, or dont even hatch.

In my experience, EBJD are very sensitive to everything. I believe my fault layed with the size of mines tank mates...an oscar and a half grown JD. Mine died within 2 weeks of starvation and fear. Thank god I got an instore credit. I wanted that fish so bad too but With my current tank its just not a feasable mate.
