Wet glad to hear he started eating!
with his little hunger struck you might notice slow growth for a bit, but no need to worry he will catch up again.
What sort of growth rate is typical for these, given optimal conditions?

On the slower side just like a normal jack dempseyWhat sort of growth rate is typical for these, given optimal conditions?
It wasn’t really consistent growth that I remember, felt like a long time. Couple of growth spurts I believe. What sort of growth rate is typical for these, given optimal conditions?

I tracked his growth and progress in a thread on here call growing up blue (not sure if you glanced at that)
he never really grew into the boisterous fish I was expecting, he’s quite mellow even fully matured. I don’t see him openly swimming in my tank much anymore but when I do he is an impressive fish. I found they were more open swimmers when younger, then more loungers when they hit the 6/7 inch mark. Though not to down play him, he could take out any fish in his tank at any time if he so chose to.
Thank you. My tank is still a show tank!I've just spent the past hour reading all 19 pages of your thread - loved it. I would really like to have a go at breeding them like you; but my tank just isn't geared up for it like yours. It's more of a show tank with rocks rather than a planted setup with caves to facilitate breeding.
What tank mates did you find worked best? I presently have 9 platys in with him to act as a ditcher, encourage him to swim with confidence and feed him with fry.
Thank you. My tank is still a show tank!
He and the female laid eggs about three times and they and fungaled pretty quickly.
My ebjd will accept any tank mates, the last and newest tank mate he has accepted was a swordtail and a rope fish.
the rope fish pretty much swims below him grazing the ebjds face and belly and the ebjd doesn’t care!
Other tank mates he currently lives with are, a molly, bleeding heart tetras, Honduran red points, and his gold female.
Haha no I did t take offence to it at all and totally understand how you meant itI'm glad there's hope for the platys then! Thanks.
Also, I didn't mean your tank wasn't a show tank in that respect! More that mine is just very open with just some rocks - for viewing. No plants or necessities like caves or cover etc for breeding. Perhaps the wrong use of words by my part.
