The EBJD gene is either "on" or "off". No way for it to be "half". That's an EBJD.

Cool good to know, thanks.

though i don't get the difference between it and the other EBJD, was one just bread more for the "blue" then the other.

In this case the behavior of the fish gives you the answer. Hybrids just dont know what they are doing. Theyre almost mindless. I had a bite sized EBJD who made it his buisness to hang out practically inside my 12in Oscars mouth. Lucky for him my Oscars are one of a kind. Never seen them eat another fish. Very docile. I use their tank as a grow out tank for Central and South American fish. Getting back to it, I say its an EBJD might get more blue in time.

How do you measure "mindness" and what are these statements based on? And are you saying EBJDs are hybrids?

Some crazy info getting spread around in this thread.

OP - that is a juvy EBJD

You cannot have a half EBJD, there are eithers regular jacks or EBJD's.

They are not hybrids.

^Agreed. It's just a EBJD that's it, no hybird just a juvi EBJD.

the color of the ebjd also depends on the stress level and the color of the seroundings. what u have is a stressed out ebjd that will eventualy color up when not stressed.

Man am I glad that nonsense was stopped later on. Can't believe those ideas first tossed out. mbeatrice got it right I believe. Just give it some time and do your best to make the fish comfortable.

I agree they do change color with mood. When stressed mine is a light blue. When happy and king of the tank he is dark like the Photo.

The nonsense some people throw out there huh...

Definately an EBJD...

Having bred a handful of these guys from several different pairs... you get a fairly wide range of variation within a single brood... and the appearance as a baby has little to nothing to do with the appearance as an adult... they change drastically...

Mood and environment does have an influence on colaration... ther is still a very wide variety in appearance apart from these influences...
