When I was looking for EBJD a couple weeks ago, I remembered that one of my LFS had some a few months back so I decided to go check them out.
I was surprised that they still had 3 or 4 baby EBJD from that same batch, and they were exactly the same size, just darker blue. Their eyes had deformities either from fighting or bad water quality.
Those fish would be stunted and possibly never grow, so I didn't buy them.
You never know how long fish have been at the LFS unless you check their stock frequently, otherwise it's a crapshoot, and my guess is that majority of the stunted deformed EBJD are from stock that has been 'on the shelf' too long.
Anyways, the guy in my avatar, it took two years for him to get that size.
I had two, but the other one died, no obvious reason, possibly bullying, or disease from feeding live black worms.
In the end, that big male was 8" when he was killed by an 8" Gold Saum
