Heres some pics of my female JD laying eggs and of my male EBJD. The day they layed their first batch I talked to the owner of the LFS where I bought him at and he said that he thinks he's still too small(seeing he still has all his brothers and sisters and they are all still 1-1.5" cause they don't feed their fish well and the EBJD brought ick into my tank). He is about 2.5" right now. He does his lil wiggle over the eggs though. actually he kinda stays still but I know he's doing his job.
Does anyone think his size is hampering his ability to reproduce?

Sorry about the ich...it happened to me that's why I should have QT them...His size might have been stunted which could mean that he might be sexually mature. My convict (female) seemed like a juvenile but when I put my MATURE pink convict (which was MUCH bigger than my female Black Convict) they started to mate and lay eggs. Always keep the positive side up!

Hey,
I was reading some guys post and he said his jacks pair up around 2.5-3 inches and breed so it should be possible. I always thought it was the females that took longer to mature and produce eggs and that the males matured alot faster. You should find out shortly either way!

yes jack dempsey do spawn at 2" even smaller i had a pair spawn when they were small as but they ate there fry though

then he ate her

thanks. yeah i qt'd him when i saw him twitching and scartching and noticed he either had a wound or his belly was bloated. i salted a 10g and treated him for ich for 14 days and treated my 120 for 7 days(3days on 1 day off), with a 50% water change before and after.

awwwe sorry to hear that. i don't think i have to worry about that more like the other way around. my EBJD is so skittish. the female is the biggest in the tank and she runs it. never had a problem with her as aggression goes. actually never had a problem with any of my dempsey's. btw i will always have at least one dempsey my whole life, i <3 them too.

i sure will... i just hope that these ones hatch.

Sorry guys no hatching most the eggs turned white. i am going to put them in the 75 very shortly, hopefully that will work out better for them.

i had 6 juvies growing out, to end up with a pair.
at a bit over an inch one of them (only male out of the 6 i later found out) started beating the crap out of 4 other fish and courting the fifth. I removed the other 4 and 3-4 days later they where guarding their first spawn of eggs.
They where no more then inch 1½ when they spawned
