EBJD ?

Owning an EBJD and a standard JD, EBJD have a blue base with black highlights as seen in the picture of mine. The standard JD has a pale gray, purple or dark black base depending on the pecking order in the tank or if they're breeding. My standard male JD is dark based with purple most of the time until he's breeding. Then he gets darker. My female gets jet black with light purple stripes when she's in breed dress. I'm not saying this fish isn't an EBJD. But based on the pictures and my experiences (having a female that has larger spangles and more spangling than most do), it looks like a standard female with more coloring than usual. Here comes the but in all this though. Like anything, there are defects in things born. Since things can happen, I imagine it is possible, though rare for a fish to be born carrying similarities to both color variants. Seeing it in person is obviously going to be better than a camera phone picture. Do you have a digital camera?
I still think it looks like a standard JD with nice coloration. I have a few JDs or "supposily" Blue Gene JDs that looks like yours.
All it means is that they look like regular JDs. Like previous posters mentioned. It is a recessive gene and the fish will look one of two ways:
1) A regular JD, no matter how many blue spots it has.
OR
2) EBJD, with a blue sheen almost from head to tail.
It's just how mother nature designed the genes. There's no "in betweens" from the 2 options mentioned above.
They are really beautiful regular JDs btw.
But $40 for 2 regular JDs is really expensive. If you really want EBJDs, you should consider returning them and getting EBJDs. Unless of course you are in love with these fishes.

I will say EBJD. Different yes but in my eyes an EBJD. The size you have the price is right. Feed them well and give them some big water changes and see how they turn out.
Below is a photo from Cole on allthingsdempsy. This blue has the head of regular jd but the body of an EBJD. Raising the fish from a juvenile there is no question it's a blue. Different yes.
