I'm picking a baby at around 1.5-2" today for an empty tank and need a little more info than what on the Internet . Are they hardy? Growth rate? Max size?and any other info would be great

Not hardy at all. I've attempted some to grow out from 3/4 inch a few times and they have always died at about 1-2 inch. I bought a larger one at 4 inch and he is a real beaut now. They are less aggressive than the normal jd none of mine have shown anything other than small territorial aggro if a fish goes into his hole.

No, They are not as healthy as regular Jack Dempsey's.
They are slower growing, And more prone to infection.
But they are probable one of the best looking tropical fish to me.
I have 5 of them. As an option, I picked up some Platinums,
And some EBJD's w/gold gene from LiquidLizard.
So far, They appear to be much more vibrant. Even the EBJD's are going fine.
Healthy as can be.
