I've only had my tank stocked for around a month with an oscar, a JD, a firemouth, a blue acara and a senegal bichir. From the start I wanted an EBJD but could only find a normal JD. A pet store near my has them in just now, would an EBJD do ok with my other fish if I moved my regular JD to another tank? Are they really as sensitive as people say? I've read so much about them getting internal parasites and dying really quickly..

be fine if its big enough. alot die due to being weaker genetically, they are fragile but not bad as people make out... i grew one to five inches in a tank with many aggressive larger fish then a 14 inch silver arowana ate it, i was stupid in my earlier aquarium days... wel more stupid lol.

It's only about 2" just now so still pretty small. I just don't want to pay £25 for a fish that's almost guaranteed to die lol.. Always wanted one though!

two inch is a good size, they are usually under a inch down here! depends on whether your other fish could swallow him.. if not they will probably ignore him... the oscar will grow much quicker tho so be careful.

So my chances are a bit better then lol? The oscar is at least double the size of the EBJD so hopefully he won't decide to eat him when he gets a bit bigger! Expensive meal..

I wouldn't do it. These fish are very difficult some luck out but like you mentioned they are expensive. i had one die from being stressed by a water change and he stopped eating. I had another two that I was extremely careful of I kept a journal and everything and 1 died then the next week the other died no reason why.

At one point I put a German blue ram in with them and had to remove it because it was beating them up and the EBJD were twice his size. do some research on EBJD and the 3" mark for some reason allot die at 3" they say it has something to do with the genetic mutation and the internal organs. Mine were both about 3" when they died.

I have a 3.5" EBJD in with a 10" Oscar and he pays no mind to the EBJD at all

Hmm.. Maybe not worth it incase the worst does happen.. They are lovely fish but i'm sure the JD I have just now will be stunning when it colours up! Thanks for the help guys. Oh, and is there any way to sex a 3" JD?

By its colors. Females have a "blue beard" Blue on the gill plate and under the jaw. Males do not. Males have more coloring along their bodies than females. post a pic and I should be able to tell you.
