I wouldn't do it. These fish are very difficult some luck out but like you mentioned they are expensive. i had one die from being stressed by a water change and he stopped eating. I had another two that I was extremely careful of I kept a journal and everything and 1 died then the next week the other died no reason why.
At one point I put a German blue ram in with them and had to remove it because it was beating them up and the EBJD were twice his size. do some research on EBJD and the 3" mark for some reason allot die at 3" they say it has something to do with the genetic mutation and the internal organs. Mine were both about 3" when they died.
This. It's best to raise them by themselves or with no aggressive fish until 3-4". Yah, you might get away with aggressive fish but your taking a big chance on a expensive fish. So far I took someone's advice on raising them alone or with no aggressive fish. I have 3 and so far I have had the first 2 for about 4-5 months and the new one I just got. I've had that one for 2 months. 2 of them are living together in a 30 gallon with only a kille and small pleco. Good luck on raising them.
