Hard to sex them when young

Pic for reference, ebjd is male you can see his tube is kind of pointed towards the front, female is tube like position more towards the back.

My male at 1.5 years old 8-9- inches ...I think I would call them moderate growers...not quick but not deathly slow either...if they get sick they do slow down dramatically in growth until healthy again.43986095-2DE5-4F24-A5B6-D2D85B895007.jpeg641230D3-0F03-468C-A047-2C95DD06B3C8.jpeg

Okay thank you . What type of diet do you feed your Dempsey’s.
WHS he was smaller I fed nls pellets the really tiny ones, and also gave him frozen musics shrimp, and frozen brine shrimp.

There was 3-4 times when he was really small that he refused to eat (when this happened his growth halted)and I had to do treatments on him before he completely stopped eat as he would still accept frozen.

Now as an adult I haven’t had to do any treatments on him (5-6 inch mark and onwards) and he now eats mainly omega one cichlid pellets. Sometimes frozen but not often...

Ebjd is the most diseased fish I've ever owned and I've owned so many fish. Its definitely a hard fish to keep in my opinion.
They are not that difficult, I don’t think they are easy to raise when you have more aggressive fish in with the babies and that grow quicker than the Ebjds and can easily out compete them for food.

I grew 3 up together in a 75g tank with mollies and guppies. Done 90% weekly water changes.

You also have to be quick to catch them not eating

Raising them alone makes it much easier but most people don’t like to delicate a large tank to a single small cichlid

(this is my personal opinion)

Seems almost inevitable for some of them to stop eating at some point. How did you treat? I did API General Cure-- ingredients: metro and prazi.

Fed mine NLS also, plus freeze dried mysis, which seemed to get them growing again after a spell not eating or growing.

The fish almost always has to be treated and gets sick very often. That shouldn't be the case in a healthy aquarium. Its definitely a genetically weak fish.
