What could be the reason for an ebjd cichlid to lose it’s blue pigment? Mine seem to be getting dull but yet I look at them everyday. What do you guys think i have photos attached. Also they mainly eat algae pellets, which were mainly for my bulldog pleco. They seem to really like those pellets over anything else.

look fine to me but think i would change them up to a more balanced pellet.

That’s one thing about ebjds as fry, they are always changing color as they grow, their pattern will change slightly but not too drastically. You won’t see his final color until about 4-5 inches.

A couple of things to note in your case is the other larger possible GT that was mentioned could be causing stress. And your light color gravel (I cannot see the entire tank, but it looks to be a fair deal of white sand/gravel) could be causing the fish to lighten its colors to blend in better and not be seen.

I had a similar situation with my EBJD. He/she darkened up for quite awhile. She's in a 135gallon with peaceful tank mates , large weekly water changes and fed NLS thera-a and Omega One cichlid pellets as a staple. Seemed healthy and happy. Just couldn't figure out why the color loss. Recently she's regaining her color. First pic is how she used to look, second pic is color loss (was this way for a good 4-6 months), third pic was just taken yesterday. As long as yours seem healthy maybe just give it time.

Agree with the above. The coloring of your EB is perfect.

Ya, totally agree about that Green Terror.

Looks completely normal and healthy to me.
