Yeah, I think I'd be pretty startled if I was diving in a lake and stumbled across a 58lb fish!:WHOA: But that would be a cool story to tell.

LOL, if i had a fish half that size in my tank alone, i'd be afraid to do maintenance and vac the tank.

Being serious, i think you might have about 6 months to a year max before he start getting big enough to cause any damage. after about 18 months even the oscars wouldn't be safe.

I wouldn't be suprised if a blue channel cat did grow that fast. However mine is just a regular channel cat. I've researched channel cat farming and the consensus is that well fed channels are harvested after about 18 months when they weigh approximately 1 1/4 lbs. I doubt a fish that size could swallow a full grown oscar, but my firemouth would be toast if I don't move him to the other tank by then.:nilly:

Woops sorry wrong cat. more realistic, you might have about 2.5-3 years before he hits resonable size, after five years he would be enormous. i say your smaller fish would be ok up to about 1.5-2 years if they're fast.

Im no expert on these fish, but i grew up on a small lake in the very far northwestern part of Indiana (North Liberty-Fish Lake IN.) and catching a 14" 2 year old cat is pretty common, but tank raised i say you have 3-5 years before you start to reconsider your decision.

Cool. I already have a second large tank to relocate the cichlids when it becomes necessary. But it's good to know that I have some time till then.:)

This cat is great. It isn't wary of my oscars at all and the o's just ignore it like it's not even there. It forces it's way into the oscars feeding and just takes what it wants despite being a fraction of the size.

great, i had one not to long ago, i hate ich, but he was amazing, only had a stub for a tail tho!

the biggest channel cat recorded was 58lbs i think and only 4' long. i think if i had a fish lurking in the depths with that bulk everything would be doomed... EVEN YOU!!!!:nilly:

largest is 68LBS about 5ft long. caught in the potomac, currently at the bass pro shop in arundel mills mall in MD.

it would take a good while for that to happen, also would probably get tolerant by the time it gets big enough
