So Cal
Well, did a LOT of reading on these, I mentioned that id like one in my 60 tall thats coming and some of you guys told me, id need a 75g for one, at least... Then i do a lot of other reading on them and they tell me a 40g is as small as you can go for a mated pair, and a single in a 40g would be great.

I've been out of the Freshwater game for awhile, so i wont lie. I don't know what to believe. So id like some more opinion.

Thanks much guys.

40 g will work. It is probably best to go with the recomendation concensus of a regular JD :) Which happens to be minimum of 40 g. better would be a 55 and ideal in MY opinion would be 75 g. But a sixty tall is fine :)

I have not myself seen Blues as large as Regs. But is possible ...

a 60 tall is probably fine, as long as your footprint is reasonable, if not a 40 gallon breeder would be fine. a 75 would be nice, but it's not the minimum.

Ty all much for the timely responses. Till i get a much larger tank I think id use the 40g breeder I have laying around as a specimen tank for one Large EBJD, possibly try for a mated pair :)

Also, what kind of decor do they put in with EBJD's ? All the tanks i see are usually pretty plain. Id like some plants and maybe some driftwood.

Mated pair.... You should just start with a blue figure out the sex and then add a regular..
As if I am correct there still has been no successful fry from a mated pair of blues?

Thats exactly what im talking about, EBJD with a reg JD, then their first fry have a 40-50% EBDJ gene, then inbreed them. At least thats what i've come to understand.

I have, thats where i got the idea. I wanted to PM him actually to ask him a few specific questions but he has PM's off i think. I found another cool site that has lots of info.

http://bluejax.co.uk/default.aspx

Some good stuff there, a forum dedicated strictly to EBJD and EBJD breeders, they use 40g breeders (Which i happen to have) to find mated pairs, and i explained how they do it in my last post.

I think it sounds like fun.

Bluejax's site is your best resource. Ormed posts there regularly along with other breeders of ebjds. They're the experts!
