EBJD's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if they have good genetics then they are fine.

a freind has grown them up from fry which he bred and now they are 1" and he hasnt lost any, he feeds them 5 times a day and cleans the tank once a week..

mbunafishkeeper --- I agree. There are a few good lines out there right now that do yield a higher percentage of healthy EBJD's.

I purchased 6 from Hollywood a year ago. Out of the 6, three were very healthy and grew really fast. I still currently have those three. The rest, were runts, grew slow, were really dark, skinny, and werent as active.

Overall, I suggest purchasing at least 6. This will guarantee that you will get at least 1 good one. When I first got mine, I kept them the same as with reg JD's. Nothing special.

I bought four from different lines. Two died under 2", one ended up very deformed looking, and the last one turned out great.

poor blood lines for you, the ones which are bred BG to EBJD have poorer genes then if they bred BG with BG there would only be a 25% success rate with the BG but the quality is higher and more will live in the long run IMO!

i did not know that

I raised one from 2 1/2 inches up to 9 inches........Mine was a male....his colors kept looking better and better with time.....ON THE DOWNSIDE he was much more of a scaredy cat and didn't form that bond with me that almost all of my other cichlids did....I got him a mate and she would lay eggs with him every two weeks and he would swim on the eggs as if he was fertilizing them but never successfully fertilized them....He would always lock lips and court with the female and act tough but she would always rip him up, bad damage to all his beautiful fins and she was a lot smaller then he was.....I guess what I'm saying is over all I turned out to not be a fan on these beautiful fish.....

My first attempt was with two 1.25" EBJD's, they died after 3 months.

My second attempt was with two 3" EBJD's from Rapps, they did very well and didnt give them any special care, got to about 6-7" but they werent as nice looking as most I have seen so i got rid of them.

My Third try still in process, I purchased 5 1" EBJD's two months ago, two have passed on and the other 3 seem to be doing very well. These fish take alot of patience and be aware that they may die at random.

I came home yesterday from my trip to Miami and my EBJD was dead.
4 years old and 7 inches. I had him since he was 1.5":(
