My wife keeps trying to talk me into getting one. Should I give it a shot or run away as fast as possible?

The general opinion I see is that if you buy them small they will more than likely die or there is a small chance you get it to 4" and it becomes bulletproof.

I just finished reading through the mistake thread thread and there seem to be more posts about EBJD's than anything else. Does anyone have any success stories?

I have kept a few... and raised most to adulthood... I would try to get one from a private breeder instead of a chain store.

This.

I have been raising one for a few months now and have been doing ok. Make sure your water is pristine. Also a uv sterilizer from what I have read makes them easier to raise up. I think they are worth the trouble as they are insanely beautiful. Infact I am rehoming fish that I have had since I started my tank to make it better for my EBJD and also to lower my bio load. Keep us posted on if you buy one.

Try to buy a group of EBJD, I snacked entire batch (10 EBJD 1~1.5 inch) from my LFS on their shipment day last week. So far all of them very active and eat like a pig (I feed them cichlid pellet and bloodworm), some of them already showing beautiful blue color on their fins and tail, body pattern. The picture upload function is broken or I would post a picture.

Is an electric blue acara out of the question? So far they seem to be more hardy than EBJD, and are practically available at even the chain stores for the same price as a EBJD.

Agreed. IMO the EBJD is the most beautiful fish you could have in your tank. My little guy already has beautiful color and amazing pattern.

There you go have to link it from photobucket :) they are in my grow out tank for a week and color already look awesome. The smallest one is 1 inch and the biggest one is 1.75 inch. Also, they already recognized me sthe owner or their daily food source they came and wait as the glass and staring at me while I'm taking pictures :)

New picture after a week since last photo, you can see the color progress is much better on the biggest one. There are 3 or 4 in the group with really nice and bold in color pattern.
I took the picture with my phone, the color way better if see it in person :D
