I bought two 250watt Heaters from Big als online thinking they were totally submersible but it turns out they arent. They are supposed to be mounted vertically with the top of the heater above the waterline. I was originally gonna lay these in my sump, but I cant if the top has to remain above the water and vertical! Does anyone know if I will break the heater by ignoring the instructions?

I did not know they were not fully submersible??? can you post a picture of the heater you bought.
Totally submersible, says so on the website. I believe they have to put the waterline on them to comply with U.S. and Canadian standards.

It said totally submersible on the bigals website, thats why i bought them. So does this mean I can ignore the instructions and throw them in? http://www.eheim.com/jager.htm it says they are totally submersible on the eheim website! yay!
Depends on the heater. Did you get an EBO jager, or an eheim jager? Some of the older ebos were not submersible, but they haven't been made for a few years.
Are you sure it is an ebo, and not an eheim jager? Ebo's have been out of production for a while now.
