I'll start with saying that I'm a skeptic and believe media can really spin things. I'm not one to panic about things, but I do fly 80,000+ miles per year for work, much of it internationally and I am convinced its time to step up the sanitary routine. Extreme hand washing, not touching face, sanitary wipes for surfaces I'm in contact with. I've always been of the old school mentality that germs are everywhere and my immune system will handle it as long as I remain healthy (I rarely get sick once every 4-5 years). But this has me genuinely concerned, I owe it to my family to take precautions when traveling abroad. I don't believe this will become a widespread epidemic but its safest to err on the side of caution.

I for one am very disappointed at what the head of CDC said about restricting travel. It does not have to be draconian; it just has to be selective.

US is fully capable of distinguishing aid workers traveling in and out of the country and say a last minute tourist(sorry, your country has ebola, you don't get to be a tourist). People who do international business should understand this. Who were he trying to fool?

Hello; Additional things to consider doing.

Change clothes and launder them as soon as possible after being worn at doctor's offices, ER's and public transportation.

Have some sort of plan to disinfect travel gear. I use to have canvas bags that could be thrown in a washer when I traveled to my father's place. He smoked and the smell got into everything. I believe that detergents damage the cell membrane of bacteria but am unsure about virus.
I suppose a set of travel clothing that can be washed in a bleach solution might be an option

Carry small bottles or towlets of some sort of disinfectant for times when regular washing is not available. I understand that the overuse of antibiotic hand sanitizers is a potential factor in promoting resistant strains of bacteria so I use them sparingly. The wipes can be used to wipe down surfaces like public toilet seats and such. Perhaps someone has a better plan.

Have a few pair of surgical gloves in the travel gear and/or clothes pockets for those times that may pop up. You will know if a situation happens. Learn how to remove them in a safe manner as there is a proper way to do so.

One thing that US lacks that some countries have is a bio screening. They let people come and go in this country and run the risk of having diseases brought here, as just happened. I think the US needs bio screenings but you know people would whine about their precious rights.

Hello; I am listening to a doctor on C-SPAN who treated patients in Africa. He described his multiple plane flights to get to the USA. He was screened, questioned and had his temperature taken by nurses at each airport in each country except the USA.

Add to the whine about rights the concern of how such screening will affect business/economics. I picture the mayor in the film JAWS.
