My understanding is that it's both. If we want travel bans from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, we'd better be ready to commit to a full militarized response, because 'only using charter flights' in and out of the country for aid workers isn't going to end well -- people made even desperate to escape once travel bans are in place will just skyjack civilian aircraft and airfields.

Hello; Yes, I see you point and have confidence in the reasoning. Perhaps the world health officials are in a way equally desperate to get a massive aid effort going because they understand it may be the last, maybe only, chance left to prevent a pandemic.

At any rate I picked up an extra jug of Clorox and some heavy Nitrile gloves today. I normally have the thin Nitrile gloves around for doing jobs around the house and on cars. I make a mix of Clorox and water in spray bottles for cleaning bathroom already. My thinking is to have the means of disinfecting on hand if some disturbing events take place. The problem, as I see it now, is that an infected person (perhaps even an animal vector) can be around for many days almost anywhere before it becomes general knowledge. Such an event near where I live may well change how people act. Having the supplies on hand seems prudent and they will be used in normal activities if such an event never happens.

I already have several weeks of food on hand as a matter of regular habit. I also keep many gallons of clean fresh water on hand for water changes in my tanks that will do for drinking. Should an outbreak occur near my location, I hope to be able to limit my interaction with others to some degree. May be pointless, but a holdover from my youth as a scout.

I recall a camping trip back in the 50's. I took some extra time to position my tent, trench around it and drive in extra stakes while the rest of the troop was swimming. Later that evening we had a heavy rain storm. Some tents fell and others had water running thru them getting a lot of bedding wet. I had a lot of company in a dry tent. You never know.

I am so happy to see you post about having the chlorox and the food on hand!!!

This is something that every family in America should have, in case of severe winter weather or power outages. It was previously suggested that people do this in case of pandemic flu, but I think that more people will seriously think about this now. Personally, I do not think that people will need it for ebola, but it doesn't hurt to share the how-to with them! I have slowly been putting together my own cache since it is something that I should practice as well as preach, and I know that Atlanta will be hit with severe winter storms more frequently in the future -- and it most certainly does NOT have the infrastructure to respond to ice! I still need to get an updated hardcopy of road maps, and build up the food supply a bit more (I usually get a few extra items during each grocery shopping trip).

For others that are interested in following sk's example, this page has a list of sample kits and how to keep and store them: http://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit

The zerohedge commenters are hating on Frieden because he is Jewish? REALLY? That's the community and source of information that you are relying on and perhaps worse, sharing here?
I don't even see the comment you mention.?. At any rate, public-comment posts are not the point, the article is. and a primary source of the article is:
" As Reuters reports,

Some healthcare experts are bristling at the assertion by a top U.S. health official that a “protocol breach” caused a Dallas nurse to be infected with Ebola while caring for a dying patient, saying the case instead shows how far the nation’s hospitals are from adequately training staff to deal with the deadly virus.

...

It was not immediately clear whether the Texas hospital prepared its staff with simulation drills before admitting Duncan, but a recent survey of nurses nationwide suggests few have been briefed on Ebola preparations. Officials at the hospital did not respond to requests for comment.

Some experts also question the CDC’s assertion that any U.S. hospital should be prepared to treat an Ebola patient as the outbreak ravaging West Africa begins to spread globally. Given the level of training required to do the job safely, U.S. health authorities should consider designating a hospital in each region as the go-to facility for Ebola, they said.

"You don't scapegoat and blame when you have a disease outbreak," said Bonnie Castillo, a registered nurse and a disaster relief expert at National Nurses United, which serves as both a union and a professional association for U.S. nurses. "We have system failure. That is what we have to correct."........................

Please don't libel a website because of some comments in their non modified comment section. Zerohedge is a well respected and highly popular economic analysis site. It's one of the fastest growing information sites on the web with good reason. They provide valuable information that the main stream media won't do. Their site is incredibly popular and with popularity you draw trolls. If you are offended by troll comments. Don't read the comment section. Their articles are very good and a must read for anybody that is doing their own investing.

"Zero Hedge is a financial blog that aggregates news and presents editorial opinions from original and outside sources. It reports on economics, Wall Street, and the financial sector and is credited with bringing the controversial practice of flash trading to public attention in 2009 via a series of posts alleging that Goldman Sachs' access to flash order information allowed the firm to gain unfair profits. The news portion of the site is written by a group of editors who collectively write under
