I am planning on using a 55 gallon sump for my 220. IMO, the 20 gallon is a little small for a 180. If you can get a 40 breeder or a 55 (both part of the dollar/gallon sale)to fit, then I would recommend those.

I owe you big time! This seems to have fixed my leaking issue but I will be keeping a close eye on it. Still completely undecided between a sump or 2 canister filters. I have no experience with sumps so its a little unnerving.

I was/am in the same boat you are. I just got a 210 gallon setup and it has dual overflows and I am working through getting a sump setup. I have decided to go sump, I have always been a canister filter guy, but man I get so sick of cleaning them out all the time. I am going to give K1 a shot and see how it works for me.

Don't let the function of a sump be too intimidating. I did that at first and was very overwhelmed at the many possibilities and combinations of what could be done, what I wanted to do, what others suggested, etc. I got to the point where I was making everything overly complicated. So, think about your stocking, bioload, etc and decide, but most of all keep the sump simple and effective. It doesn't have to be all kinds of fancy with PVC running all over the place and inline everything, etc.

Do what works best for you and the tank.

No baffles just filter socks, bio, and a pump. I was taken back by sumps too. After other members helpede to understand them i can honestly say i will never buy a can again

Sump all the way. Once you start using one, you'll wonder what took you so long to make the change...lol. I'm speaking from experience. We used to have 15 canister filters running at one point in time back in the day. Now, I'm down to one canister (and probably my last).
