Hello all,

I was wondering about ecospheres, and how the shrimp do in them. I was thinking of making my own, and how to make it, as well as how much it will cost. Another thing I wanted to ask is about isopods. I wanna set up a tank for an isopod that gets relatively large. Like 5-6” large. Any suggestions? Don’t think anyone can help with the isopod, but worth a shot.

Thanks!

Honestly depends how big the ecosphere's gonna be. and wdym isopods?

and how the shrimp do in them
I heard shrimps do pretty good in them but i have no experience in ecospheres so take it with a grain of salt(or a dump truck of salt your choice).

I don't think getting isopods (depending on what ones) is going to be to easy. You might want to try out some triops to scratch that itch. Triops are cool and it's a fun kit to explore.
Just set up a shrimp tank if you want shrimp. Heck set up 3 - 2.5g tanks and get 3 different kinds/colors of shrimp to mess with.

Ok. My uncle went Down to a lake near him and took water and algae as well as a snail. The snail bred and he never had to do water changes, it was it’s own little ecosystem. What I was wanting to do is make something in a jar an ecosystem. Also, by how do the shrimp do, I mean long term.

Definitely worth a try, I haven’t seen too much on it, but from what I know you essentially have to completely seal off the jar so no evaporation can occur without making its way back to the water and everything can be self sufficient. I’d say you need at least 5-10 gallons so you have enough space for dilution of waste and ample food for the shrimps.

I know MatteoTheEnder22 MatteoTheEnder22 had a little terrarium with some rolly pollys. It sounds fun, maybe some tadpoles, shrimp, crayfish, minnows and some other insects. would love to do one in my 10 gallon.

I wanna set up a crayfish terarium. I would want a bullfrog tadpole, because they take 2 years to fully grow. Then I could sell him or release him into the outdoor pond my dad and I planned. I’ll find some project that my parents would be cool with.
