Ecospheres?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An Ecosphere is a sealed unit containing animal and plant life. Energy is supplied in the form of light, which causes the plant (algae) to grow, providing food for the shrimp, which in turn produces waste products which are supposed to nourish the plant. As can be imagined, this is a delicate balancing act, requiring just the right ratio of plant/animal life in order to succeed. It's highly unlikely for it to work if there is any surplus of dead/decaying organic matter present.

What you have is not an Ecosphere, but rather a pickle jar full of muddy water.

I have done many self sustaining terrariums paludariums and vivariums but never had success with aquatic seal ecosystems I have done several isopod sealed terrariums all I do is get a jar or container I like to use cheese ball containers or pork rind containers I add soil and a carpet of native moss and leaf litter and they lasted a very long time I have done several terrariums with tiny ponds or creeks in them terrariums are very cool if you want to try them look at serpa design on youtube also no isopods get 5-6" that are land based
