The look on the female's face is hilarious

But yeah, do some serious water changes, I can smell that tank from here. I'd nuke the gravel if I was you, it's too hard to clean especially with big messy Reptiles like RES. Not to mention how much Turtles kick that stuff up.

Hey, hey, hey. Do NOT release anything into the wild. RES are pretty much invasive EVERYWHERE. In NY they have pretty much substituted the native Eastern Painted Turtle.

guys on street corners here in dallas sell the babies...
these things are everywhere: apartment ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, man-made water bodies, etc...

There was a strong population where I let them go, and I know that they are better off...

Please stop letting me know that the tank is dirty... I had to watch TV in that room.... After spending a couple hundred dollars on filters and accessories, the 55g that was their water tank after the pic shown stayed crystal clear, except for the dirt they dragged in from the dry tank.

The total size of their habitat was 12'x2'x4'.
I don't think they lacked for anything besides the freedom that I gave them.

And yes, against all my friends' wishes, the blue gravel stayed in the tank until they were released.

PS: I like blue.

Yes... I know they might be better off. But that is not your point of concern, pets are not more important than native species. By releasing pets, you get your native population overthrown.

What really is native...
around here, the Army Corps of Eng. stocked all the lakes with Oscars because no native fish could be found. Now, how am I influencing population...?
There were already turtles in the pond, there will be turtles in the pond, and I know that until they raize the apt complex, they will be safe and happy... There is no river or access to public water sources or wildlife...
It would be like The Incredible Journey for my turtles to reach any NATURAL species.
