im ashamed to say this but once the way i got a tire track to eat pellets was simply because it took me a week to to get his food in. he had no choice but resorted to eat sinking cichlid pellets that would fall in between the gravel. he would just nose dive in there and eat whatever he found. after a while he came out to eat sinking pellets like anyone else.
I have a 28" fire eel that has ben eating pelets for the last three years with no problems at all. In fact he has put on most of his size with the pelets.
