Eel Questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My eel has never shown any intention of escaping. He spends his time digging in the sand and redecorating the tank. He only comes to the lid when I have food dangling in. Even then, I have to keep one hand free to guide him when he lifts himself up for food.

Zebras are supposedly fish safe but ive never had one...all this talk about snowflakes being safer for fish is nonsense ime. I had 2 that would eat absolutly everything they could catch or fit in their mouth. One escaped a few weeks ago through a h.o.b. after 2 years and the other is kept with large 10-12" lions and a 8" trigger. He is currently 22-24" and has killed larger fish then he could eat since he was 8". its case by case scenario just like most other preds fresh or salt. But imo never trust a morey! Just like never trust a catfish lol... true escape artists aswell. The one i had escape had weighted down lids, fully covered tops down to duct taping the air gap inbetween the h.o.b. and hood. He grew large enough to stand on the floor of the tank, push himself through the flow of the filter and lifted the h.o.b. lid that was also weighted down with a large piece of granite and onto the floor. Sadly i was on vacation or i would have found him sooner. My guess is he was hungry.

I am looking to get an eel also. It is hard to pick which one to go with. They all look so cool. I was hoping to keep a lionfish and a trigger with mine.

Yeah sorry to hear about your loss!
And skain, unfortunately not yet, I plan on setting up the tank after I get back from vacation (in august), I'll make a build thread then, and I'll be looking forward to the moray!

Exciting stuff man!
