Just picked up a 125 Gal tank for $100 :headbang2and it will have a sand subtrate and house angels/discus, a black ghost knife and maybe a few other similiar fish. Any recomendations on an eel that would be able to live out it's life in that size tank? Pics would be appreciated. I would like a fire eel, but know they get huge and currently don't have the space for a bigger tank, so looking for other options.

get some polys- bichirs are much more entertaining and they dont hide as much. i have both eels and bichirs right now. i spend much more time infront of the bichir tank. the eels are always burried in the sand

Yea, I have about a 7 in Senegal in my 72 Bowfront right now...I have thought about getting an ornate, but would prolly have to order it as i have never seen one here locally....also, my g/f has a grudge against bichirs as i got her a little dwarf frog once and the senegal ate it, so she is constantly cursing my bichir...quite funny actually....:screwy:

my friends at american cichlids dot net have some sweet bichirs that they ship i have a 125 stocked wiith 2 ornates 2 delhizis a palmas palmas, a palmas buttikofferi gold dust, a sengal , a albino sengal, a mokelembembe and a ansorgii. i love them so much fun

Ever thought about a Zig Zag? When they're fully grown they have amazing patterns, and I just picked mine up yesterday and although he hasn't eaten yet he has gone around and explored the tank.

I would go with a trio or so of zig zags. these guys seem to do excellent in groups and stay fairly small. BUt in groups they also are alot more curiouse. M. Dayi may also be an option thogh not a whole lot is known.. atm mine have the growth rate of my fire eels and tire track at their size... so they might get bigger then 18" thats reported.

I don't get why people suggest bichirs for people asking about what kind of eel to get... that's like telling someone to buy a kissing gourami when they ask for cichlid suggestions... :screwy:

Anyway, back on topic, I would get either a M. dayi, one of the African species, or a few Macrognathus zebrinus.
