Eel-tailed banjo catfish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your Eel-tail Banjos are looking great .... ever since you showed me a pic on my thread I've been looking for them. No luck so far. I seem to only find regular Banjo's like the 2 I've got. Either way ... both types are pretty cool. Although you've got great footage of yours. Did you ever see any eggs or breeding behaviour with yours? Been thinking of picking up a few more Banjo's myself and possibly try to see if I can get them to breed. Starting to do some reading on it ... but got lots more reading to do.
Once again they look great and thanks for sharing

Not sure if he ships where you are but franks has eel tail banjos on his stock list. http://www.franksaquarium.com/misc.htm

Thanks for the compliments. So far I haven't seen any eggs on my banjos. Apparently they possibly migrate to a brackish environment to breed. Then carry their eggs back attached to their Stomachs.

I been too scared to attempt adding salt to their tank in order to mimic this. And dont have tank space to experiment. Family pets for now.

This is a awesome write up, in case you haven't read this yet. Probably the best info I could find on eel tailed on the web. If you find any other sources, please share. Eel tail or other types.

I'm not sure if the other banjos have been bred, but there is no documented breeding of eel tail that I know of so far.

I will note my probable female is looking rather fat. After 3 days of fasting(was on vacation) she still kept her girth. Unfortunately the bigger girl was a bit camera shy today.

This is her in the vid I took when I got home yesterday.

Thanks for sharing that link sharp tooth.

Those are decent prices for Eel tailed banjos. I spent about that much on them over a year ago and this is the first time I seen anyone offering any since then. In SoCal that is.

Mr mom those would be nice pickups. The ones In the photos have excellent mottling.

Happy fish keeping, cheers.
