Is there a eel that is intimadating like the Japanese Dragon eel, put does not have quite the pricetag? I know of the chestnut and viper, but is there anything else? Not something that will hide all day. I have a marineland emperor 400, cascade 700 canister filter, and a red sea prizm protein skimmer, will this work in terms of filtration?(can buy different stuff) Also have a spare 55 gallon, although can get bigger tank.

If I was shopping for a cool eel tank on a price tag, how about a Brazillain Dragon Moray (Muraena retifera) in a 75g. Real nice looking eel. Only gets 24" and you can typically find them for around $150-200.

See attached pic. I'd keep one in a 75g with a school of colorful Damsels. Just my 2 cents for a cool large eel at a nice price.

I got my eel for 20 bucks since the LFS needed to get rid of it fast
Its a yellowhead moray eel
(Gymnothorax fimbriatus)
They stay under three feet I think they are beautiful
I love it to death

You can go Brazilian Dragon or Mexican Dragon. They are intimidating and don't carry a hefty pricetag.

Ok do you think that the fluval and the emperor 400 will be ok for filtration? Should I replace the prizm(never liked it)? I was thinking a Brazilian dragon moray, radiata lionfish, and a few damsels. Any thoughts? Want to use the 55 gallon.

Ok, so just the moray and damsels. How much live rock will I need? I think ill change the skimmer to a bakpack or something. The brazilian moray is a show moray right(meaning it wont hide all day)? I have testing and other equipment already.

I'd do about 50lbs at least in a 55g (for added filtration) but make sure they are big solid pieces as a large 2' eel is strong and can knock them over. I set mine out off the back wall with enough room to stick my arm behind them and leaned them onto the back as I went up creating a nice long cave along the back. Then on either end make a cave entrance and one to two more along the front and top. My 30" dragon swims them like he's a competeition dog doing laps.

Again, just make sure everything is SOLID. One you add your rock and let everything settle for a few weeks then you can add your damsels and after a month or two (Watch parameters) you should be ready to shop for your eel.
