Hi i have a 55 gallon tank that i want to put eels in, but was wondering what i can put in. I don't want to have to upgrade the tank so what eels i put in i would like to be able to live in the tank for life.

ZIg zag eels (M.circumcinctus) also top out at about 10" and would be very appropriate for a 55.
If you have nicely hard, alkaline water and really tried, you might be able to pick up a tangyinikan spiny eel, M.elipsifer. These are great characters, and theoretically top out at 18", although I have never actually seen or heard of one quite that big. I suspect a real maximum of about 12"-15" is more realistic in an aquarium situation. That would be just fine in a 55G.

I second zigzag eels since they have a lot more personality than peacocks. Mine is very social and hand feeds where as the 2 peacocks I've had in the past I've never seen since they were buried in the gravel.
