effect of Lights on all night and sleep?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why do you think a lot of fish hide? My plecos will all move around when the lights are out. Outside of saltwater reef anemones and sponges no fish need aquarium lights. That is just for humans to see. Number two they can not close their eyes as we can. You would be better keeping the lights on for 8 hours and the rest of the time leave them off. Get a timer as was said!

damn i only leave my lights on for a cpl hours a day. Then again, im poor so I try to keep bills as low as possible.
does it really make that much of a difference lol. your billed for 1000watt per hour, what a fish tank use like 20-30 watts

i estimate it costs me 2 cent a hour to run the bulbs on my tanks

Look at the natural home of these fish you are talking about. I can’t imagine they like any bright light at all. They live in low light rivers.

Maybe not, but I look at it differently. Like I said, im broke, just finished grad school, have loans, no job at moment, so every bit helps. 5 tanks with a light on for 3 hours a day vs 5 tanks with lights on for 20 hours a day. Over a month I think there would have to be some sort of impact. Plus like the others have said, can you find many fish who live in streams and rivers that are as clear and bright and shallow as our tanks?? Not too many. Im good with limited light

2 cents per hour x 5 tanks=10 cents an hour
10 cents an hour x 20 hours=2 bucks
2 bucks a day x 30 days=60 bucks.

Am I missing your argument? 60 bucks isnt chump change to us young n poor

Like the bloke on the other page said, why do you want to have lights on all night when I assume, you are sleeping? That just makes no sense.

Turn it off and have them on from 5pm-11pm or something when you get in from work on the timer.
