Egg Crate question

Whats up im planning on loading up my 125 with lots of rock, I thought it would be a good idea to put in some egg crate under the rocks. The tank is currently up and running and has random rocks and sand and fake plants. I obviously have to take out the rocks and plants, but my question is do I have to remove all the sand also before adding the crate or can i just wiggle it down into the sand?\

why would you want to use eggcrate on the bottom of your tank??? if you want to add the eggcrate, you could just push it down onto the base, this way you don't disturb the bed as much and kick up all the sand.

Egg crate on under the rocks is a pretty common way of
"safe gaurding" your tank when you add alot of rock. It disperse's the weight of the rock evenly. It also helps especially with Africans because they
dig under the rock and occasionally causing a rock to fall or tumble over. It protects the bottom glass. But I've never put it in after the tank was up n running with sand and everything already in and I just want to do it the right way ya know. Thanks tho

The last thing you want is a pressure point and your tank cracking. Get some eggcrate. I use it just to be safe and i only have like 2-5lbs rocks in my 55g

Did u add it after the tank was set up or before. Cuz that's my whole question, I already know I'm going to add it. But can I add it with all the sand in it or do I need to take the sand out to have a clean seal from the crate to the glass

i woul just stick it like halfway down into the sand baseso that you have sand on the bottom of it wich would make it even more sturdy. dont hold me to that but it makes sense in my mind lol

ha yea that would make sense to me also, but if you think about it its probably not the best choice. for the same reason why its a better idea to put the rock directly on the glass bottom and not on the sand. plus if that sand moves and the whole egg crate shifts the rock could come tumbling down

Howdy,

My eggcrate is on the glass bottom. I wouldn't want to risk a grain of sand or gravel forming a pressure point between egg crate and glass.
