That male (possibly hybrid) Pink Marbled Convict and it's tiny 1" female Pink Marbled Convict mate have finally laid eggs. She is so small that there are only like 100 eggs. And it's also probably her first time laying. They are both guarding/fanning the eggs dutifully. They do a good job of keeping the six Venezuelan Red Corys away from that side of the tank as well as the second, smaller female. I will try to get pictures tonight but they laid the eggs in a corner of the tank that is well covered by a huge mass of java moss.

Yay, I spawned convicts, the easiest egg layers in all "aquadom" (said with bland sarcasm.) What a great step down. I am almost ashamed of my excitement.

convicts rule get the female a dovii and breed them before he's big, then lose the male... that would be an awsome fish!-)

The female convict is only ONE inch long. Any Dovii would be MUCH bigger by the time is was old enough to breed so it would eat that girl as a snack and ask for more!

Tried and tried to get good pictures. Failed. It's just too dense in there with all the java moss and when the camera is near that back corner they both flair over the eggs and hide them from view. I don't want to bother them too much. I will get pictures when they are free swimming.

Congrats! I'm a novice to breeding Cichlids and my first Convict eggs hatched today! Have not seen anything yet because mom and dad took the little wrigglers into a cave right off.
