Yea, but last time they were eaten by the male D:

It happens. Some fish take a few time to get it right. I currently have a pair of Geophagus sp. Pindare, that ate the eggs the first 2 spawns. They eventually get it right. Did you see the male fertilize the eggs? I'm wondering whether they are larvophilous or ovophilous?

I haven't seen any fertilization, it always happens during the night.
The first time it happened I saw at around 3 in the morning (it was a summer night and I had insomnia) and the second time (this time) I woke up and found them.

CSC did you change the water to fresh water at the time? the link i gave mention a water change and also adding marine salt.

The first time I did a freshwater topoff before a water change but ended up not having time for a water change that week and they spawned. Second time I didn't add any freshwater; it just happened in the middle of the night.

Hey mate, congrats so far!

If these fish truely are mouth brooders i'd leave them be and let the male hone his parenting skills. But I'd recommend you buy or make an egg tumbler, incase you find eggs again.

Goodluck!

Well the female is basically the same size as the male, but she's a lot thicker

Awesome thread.. May want to look into bullhead/channel cat breeding. May help on your next endevour. seems their breeding behavior is akin to the channels. Happy Fish breed.. always been how I've "accidentally" bred fish in the past. GL on the next batch! But I agree.. let mom and dad learn the ropes per-sae.
