Eggs, HELP!!!

First, with most surface spawning cichlids, it's best to leave BOTH parents in the tank as they will share care of the eggs and fry. The only reason to remove one of them is if the other is beating it up and tending to the eggs/fry solo.

Generally, other fish will try to pick off the eggs/fry whenever they can, so setting up a tank for each pair would be a good idea. You may have to use a dither fish (a fish that is tough and can take some abuse or quick enough to get out of the way of the pair to divert their attention off beating up each other.)

Until fry are free-swimming, there is no reason to feed them anything more than what you're feeding the parents. I don't know if he ships outside the US, but kensfish.com has Golden Pearls in various micron sizes. It's the best fry food available. Its shape keeps it in the water column instead of floating or sinking. It simulates the movement of newly hatched baby brine shrimp, so fry love it. Alternatively, you can hard boil an egg and feed the fry a little suspension of the yolk. You'll know they are eating it by their bright yellow full bellies. The Golden Pearls is orange, so you'll see the same but full orange bellies instead.

Sometimes new pairs fail to fertilize the eggs due to inexperience or end up eating the eggs because something spooked them. Don't give up. Feed your fish well and in about 10 days to 2 weeks they'll spawn again.

You can only tell the eggs are fertilized by them not turning white after a couple days. Most vary from clear to translucent amber in color depending on the species of fish. Opaque eggs are pretty much a good indicator that they are not fertile as infertile eggs deteriorate quickly.
