Well i ive been trying to breed my jag and jack dempsey for about a month. I have a female jag and male jack in a tank with no other tank mates. I came today to find a bunch of eggs on a piece of slate rock, i am realy excited to see the outcome of the fry, if anyone has any advice how to get a good survival percentage of the fry please feel free to give any advice ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1332301241.527939.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1332301254.367065.jpg

From what i can see, the eggs are white, which means they haven't been fertilised. They usually turn brown after they have been layed and fertilised - although they are white for a short period after laying. It might be that the male just missed them if it is his first go. Good luck!

Thank you they are brown but i just had a White light on their in order for you guys to see them better, the fenale is very protective and she ia constantly fanning the eggs off and sucking up any debree that has fallen on the eggs

Oh good!
I usually pull half the fry and grow them out elsehwere. This ensures a good survival rate but keeps the parents happy. Hatch some brine shrimp if possible. Although i have always used crushed flakes and the fry often eat the algae and microrganisms which develop in a mature tank. Good luck with them!

Ok thanks in the fry tank should i use the same water as the original tank im guessing yes for obvious reason and i dont plan on any subsyrate due to cleaning purposes

Thats what i would do.
Start maturing a sponge filter now in the large tank so that its ready for the fry tank.

I usually use same water and have same temperature as parents tank. i have ocd about removing the first few batches though. i just dont trust the parents first go. i dont see the point when others say to leave them and "oh they miht eat the eggs or first batch of fr" never made snes to me. others say the father will blame the mother for loss of fry and kill her but ive never seen this happen. but if u can remove half when they hatch that fine but the parents might stress out at all the comotion and that will really push them to eat their fry. its up to u.
