Only plants in there are some Major brown algee near the drain on the tank, I went to petsmart before I read some of your posts.

I bought a
Nitrite and nitrate test strip kit:
Nitrate: 20
nitrite: about 0 - 0.5

Does that mean its cycled? i thought cycled tanks were 0,0, than around 5-20
Sounds like you are mostly cycled. Test again in a couple days, and you should be down to 0 nitrite.

First thing I would do is check the manufacturing date on the kit. Personally, I don't like AP test kits, and have had 3 go bad. I prefer the seachem nitrite/nitrate test kit. I ran a test between the seachem and my 4 nitrite and nitrate kits from AP. I forget the exact results, but the AP had a pretty wide range of readings, while the Seachem was pretty close to the middle.

:iagree: WyldFya is correct. Get the SeaChem test kits or if you are going to use the drops, shake them before you use them. My nitrates can jump 20 ppm from shaking or not shaking. Shaking is a lot more accurate.

Ok, I will check sunday ( we will be finished redoing my room and need the fish out and into the bigger tank) I wish some one lived near me And would hold my fish for a week or so so I can move my tanks around.

THanks guys I will post the readings on saturday and sunday

It always helps to get more bacteria in there but that is a good sign so far. There may still be some nitrite left when the nitrate cycle begins. A water change will help lower the nitrite as you know so you should be fine. The test strips are not as accurate from what I hear. I have never used them so I cannot be positive but I like the test viles better.
