Sorry to make this difficult, I really appreciate all the help but I don't understand. Do I NOT empty the hoses into the pail? Just let a little water out? This way there is still some water in the hoses so they create a siphon when I reattach them? If I empty the hoses there wouldn't be anything to create a siphon when I reattach them.

Leave the hoses that are in your tank there. You are just syphoning the water out of the tank to make sure the hoses are completely full of water so make sure the top cap on the intake and output J-tubes are snug tight. You don't want to empty the water out of your hoses, you are just making sure they are full of water without having to add water thru the top caps.
Just put this part in the pail, depress the red latch and water will flow into the pail. Then close the red latch so the water shuts off.
Now you can reconnect it to your filter. Hope this helps.

So I went ahead and did the second canister this morning. It helped a lot but was still noisy. I would have though that was the best it got if I hadn't done the other canister. The other one became completely quiet, so quiet you couldn't even tell it was running by sound alone.
By looking at the hoses I could still see air in the both the lines. Since the intake line had air in it I knew I must be sucking air from somewhere. While messing around with the intake assembly I spilled some water on the top of the first intake section (the top section with a suction cup attached to it in the picture below). It spilled at the joint of that section and the piece that goes over the tank wall. I noticed that the water got immediately sucked down into the intake at that joint and I knew that was where it was sucking air. So I turned everything off and swapped the top section and the middle section. I put some more water on the joint, turned everything back on and voilà, quiet as can be and the water didn't get sucked in.
I can't believe how quiet these filters are. Amazing! Plus, no more cloudy tank, I can actually see inside it, looks great. Thanks for all the help, it was perfect!

mick, thanks for updating on the other filter. I'm glad you were able to find the leak source on the intake line and that both filters are running quiet.

Lol, don't laugh but I have goldfish in there. I know, I know, they are not even close to monster fish. The reason I posted here is because of all the sites I frequent you guys here are by far the most knowledgeable I've come across. While this may not be a tank for keeping monster fish, I knew you guys would know the answer.
Plus, this is my first tank so I wanted to start simple. I really love it so far and down the road I would love to have some rays...after I gain a lot more experience.
