I don't see any reason why you should have problems as long as the filter hasn't been damaged in any way. Check the housing for any cracks visually.

If you still have the old hoses, just assemble the filter normally, apply some lube to the o-ring and test it out before spending money on replacement parts.

I would replace the hoses and the O-rings, plastic becomes brittle quickly and after 10 years I wouldn't trust it at all

Great filter. Runs for decades, even with original impeller. I have two 2028 filters, incl. one that sat dry in my basement for years (for spare parts). No problems when I moved its parts up to my actively working 2028 filter (except lid clips). Eg, My active filter's hose double-tap cracked so I used it from the spare. But I'd suggest brand new O-rings and new clips.

All my 2028 lid clips got brittle and broke. Stupid clip design. Those clips are 2-piece, and the claws in the outer piece tend to chip off, and no longer grab & hold the smaller inner piece. Broken clips don't seal the lid. I got tired of buying many new clips, so instead I DIY attached a thin metal band to replace the claws, and now they no longer break. Here's my DIY solution:

C cvar , love the DIY repair for those clips, I'll keep it in mind for my 2028.

My 2028 leaked after 5 years. It was the o-ring for the flow indicator, which was cracked, and at the time I used plumbers tape since you couldn't buy a replacement part anymore. It went on for a couple more years before the o-ring on the self priming pump cracked, and you couldn't get a replacement anymore for it.

I replaced my 2028 Primer button O-ring, although Eheim refuses to sell them. But that big O-ring is indeed available elsewhere and replacement was rather easy.

Available where, you ask? Let me quote from this link found in Cichlid Forum

...from theoringstore.
The sizes you will need are 4.5mm X 92mm for the motor/primer and a 2.5mm X 12mm for the flow control indicator.

This is what I ordered:
N4.50X092 Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring$2.80
2.5mm X 12mm Metric Buna-N 70 O-ring$0.22

Excellent filter well worth fixing up. This is when Eheim where in they're prime, these days I find the quality is lacking!

Unfortunately the flow indicator cracked as well sometime after I used plumber's tape (within a 3 year period). I couldn't source a replacement for it online at that time so the 2028 went in the trash.
